*****EDIT***** A lovely twitterer found it for me! It’s called  ”Getting Near to Baby”. I’m shocked at how well I actually remembered some of the details. Can’t wait to read it again!

I’m thinking of some book from childhood. It may have been a small chapter book. 

The only thing I can remember is there maybe were two young girls who were playing, maybe on a balcony or a roof. The wind was blowing, it was breezy. Maybe they had dresses and hats on. 

What I really remember is that they made up characters as they played and one of them named a character “Mauve”. Then maybe there was some commentary about the color mauve and why it would be a person’s name. One of the girls might have been staying with her aunt, it was either spring or summertime.
